trying to reset keychain, when I hit Reset I get error message The Specified keychain could not be found

My keychain has suddenly started to play up. Followed the keychain reset procedure but when I select Rest My Default Keychain I get the error message The Specified Keychain could not be found. Has anyone got any suggestions as to how to get around this problem?

MacBook Air, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5), Keychain Problem

Cannot reset keychain password. I get "The specified keychain could not be found.

When I try to reset my keychain following the instructions on the apple website, I get the following message: "The specified keychain could not be found." Is there an alternative method?
